Golf on Costa del Sol can be played year round

High season is all year except June, July and August when the sun is at its zenith. There are 50 courses on the Costa del Sol, 72 if you include the whole of Andalusia.

Below are a couple of short reviews of the courses I have played and warmly recommend.

Cabopino Golf: Offers a variety of short tight holes to far long holes with large bunkers and water obstacles. Hole 3 is probably the most spectacular hole on the coast. With a stroke of 288 meters and the green 60 meters further down, you can with a good drive reach the green in one stroke. Many holes is on the hillside so you play either up or down. The view over the Mediterranean is always a pleasure. www.cabopinogolf.com

El Chaparral: A forest and park course. Parts of the track are completely surrounded by pine forest which is very rare on the Costa del Sol and gives the course its own charm. This course is not suitable for high handicappers as the course is really hilly and narrow in places. For medium and low handikappare this is a nice course with many interesting shots. The greens are large and usually very fast, making the short play quite tricky. This is undoubtedly one of the better courses and is recommended to play. www.golfelchaparral.com

Marbella Golf & Country Club: Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, just five minutes from Marbella. It is considered one of the best and most challenging golf courses in Europe. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior in the late 80th century and occupies one of the largest remaining green areas on the Costa del Sol, 6.000-meter 18-hole links course with a par of 72, has been imaginatively designed to respect the natural terrain and make the most of the spectacular Mediterranean views. www.marbellagolf.com

Santa Maria Golf: 18-hole course that offers players a challenging game in unbeatable surroundings overlooking the Mediterranean, and the hills around the course is covered with oaks. The course originally had only nine holes, in 1996 the last nine holes opened. The Course is one of the best on the coast, and both experienced players and beginner’s enjoy it. The course has many elevated tees with great views. www.santamariagolfclub.com

La Quinta Golf: An old championship course located in the famous “golf valley”. La Quinta Golf provides three 9-hole courses, which in combination are the three different 18-hole courses. The courses are integrated into the natural surroundings overlooking the Mediterranean and the mountains that surround Marbella. The courses require a certain skill from the players. www.laquintagolf.com/golf.html
